From its humble beginnings, simple pieces made from recycled brass and copper items, Zuni jewelry has become sophisticasted in design, and enchanting in form. Early 1800 primitiveness was changed forever but the influence of Atsiti Chan, a Navajo silversmith, who shared his craft with Lanyade, a Zuni. From there, the Zunis mastered stone setting, using silver to hold the stones in place. They developed many forms of stonesetting including cluster work, petit point, needle point, inlay and fetish necklaces hung on heshi. |
