Zuni fetishes date back to around 650 A.D. Zuni fetish making is shared by all family members and is done at home. Zuni carved animal fetishes have grown from traditional stone animal carvings, to a variety of figures carved in stone, antler, and shell. Fetishes serve a variety of purposes including ceremonial, as charms for hunting or crop success, and in prayer. |
